Dream Safari: Can you afford to miss it?

     By Charles L Harmon

Safaris are not the exclusive excursions only for the wealthy as they were at one time. Nowadays more and more ordinary folks are going on safaris.  It’s a great getaway and depending on where you go you may experience the thrill of seeing wild animals you never knew existed. From wild animals to birds to different landscape and terrain, you will find it all on safaris.

When you decide you must see some of the last of the wild animals be sure to consider an African Safari.  Although I am saying the last of some animals I really hope it doesn't happen like that.  There are many species of animals on the endangered list, endangered of becoming extinct species.  There are not too many places left on earth where wild animals roam freely without interference or exploitation by humans.

As far as the cost of a safari it varies a lot depending on your location and departure point from the U.S. and the country(s) you are going to. Also the length of time, the accommodations and particularly the season play a part in the price.  We are all aware of the sometimes big change of air fare here in this country at different times of the year. Well this is magnified even more when traveling to other countries.  So I cannot give you a specific price for an average safari - if there is such a thing.  But it will run from several thousand dollars to - well I don't know the upper limit but you can guess it is very high.

For a specific example of a safari I suggest you check out the So. African Dream Safari that is posted on a safari website I found the other day while browsing the Internet.  It’s a new site and not quite finished, but there is a lot of detail on their so called "Dream Safari" to South Africa.  For my pocketbook the cost is very reasonable considering the itinerary and the visiting of some of the better or even best places to go in South Africa.

Their "Dream Safari" is lead by Kay Trotman, a long-time Travel Consultant who has arranged and been on many safaris.  She says her next safari - in February 2008 - the "Dream Safari" is limited to only twelve people, including herself and her companion.  That leaves only ten spots to fill and judging by her past successes with safaris her next one will fill up.  If you are considering a safari or would like a different type of vacation you might try contacting Kay for more information or even better examine all the details on her site first, then if you think that trip might be for you get in contact with her for more details.

I've never been on a safari myself so I'm guessing from all the information and experience of that site's owner that the next safari she is promoting will be an excellent one. One in which I'd like to go on if, just if, I can somehow manage to scrape up enough money to go.  It’s not much time left for the initial deposit so I'll get busy and see what I can do as far as the money goes.  If you do make that trip or any other safari send me a note and let me know your thoughts - whether it’s that "Dream Safari" or any other.
